Marker Love

I like using lots of different mediums. Lately it’s been markers- a combination of Prisma, Copic, and Tombow to be specific. I think everyone’s first reaction to “markers” are flashbacks to the Crayola Washables- but I assure you, markers can be quality! This whole marker-use started fairly recent and was a result of my friend moving to New York. She was clearing out everything she owned, wanting to make her move across the country easy-as-pie, and I ended up leaving her apartment with bags of goodies. When she handed me this box of ($$$) markers, I was super hesitant to just take them (like I said, $$$!) but my super sweet friend insisted! So thank you, Lauren! Your incredibly generous gift has changed my art-game!

I love how easy it is to just start a piece! Having a bag full of markers and a sketch pad is an incredibly portable art medium. I tend to do my best work at a cafe (have I mentioned how much I love that cliche?), on the floor, or on my bed. As much as I tried- painting in bed doesn’t work. I’m prone to coziness, what can I say. So this particular medium is pretty perfect for me.

I’m happy to say that I’ve been producing lots of work in this style. I haven’t felt this motivated to illustrate since art school. It’s so satisfying finding a formula that work for you.

Halloween Windows

So that time I did two Halloween windows and never talked about them. Here we go!

These ghosts!!! I know, crazy spooky scary. This was my Halloween window for the Rare Device//Noe Valley store. It had to be done rather quickly, so I stitched up these ghosties.  I kept the gold diamonds that were up with the Cactus window because, why not, they’re cool. I like this last photo, it looks like they’re having a party and they”re singing.

Divisadero

IMG_20141008_103750IMG_1689IMG_20141005_10022120141029_112429I hung up my original creepy girl drawings at the Divisadero store. It was probably the simplest installation I’ve done, but it still took me forever. (People who install quickly, so impressed with you.) I also printed up some postcard sets and 8 x 10 prints.

Lino Cut Girls

I have the best boss who took my whole team to  3 Fish Studios for a work retreat! We spent all day carving out our drawings and learning how to make these print reliefs. Literally all I ever want to do is spend all day with a bunch of lovely people (in an amazing space, like Eric and Annie’s!) and work on art work together. It was the coolest!

I knew I needed something a bit more graphic for carving, and decided on carving this doodle of a pink haired lady I had drawn a while ago. Here’s a few versions:

This was so fun and I really like the idea of incorporating this technique in future projects. After refining this pink lady a bit, it inspired me to work on some of my other pink lady doodles. Here’s a sneak peek of what’s to come!

Corner No. 1

I’ve been living in my current house for about three years, which means it’s taken me three years to start decorating, nesting, and what not. I guess I didn’t think we’d be in this house so long, or because I had renter-paranoia and didn’t want to invest in painting or putting up shelves. But like I said, three years. It’s time.

This house is too big to take on all at once, so I’ve been decorating one corner at a time. I wanted to share my first corner that I’ve been working on: The corner of my bedroom.

Something Floral, Something New

I worked on a little something for a good friend of mine. She’s the maid of honor in an upcoming wedding and wanted to give a personal piece to the bride-to-be. I only had about a day to work on this, so I kinda gave myself creative-reign! It may not have been exactly what she was asking for, but hey, if it’s free and I have a super quick deadline, I’m pretty sure that means I get to do whatever I want, right?

And I really like it!

This is the original bouquet pattern I made. I think it would make super sweet gift wrap or something.

Lately

It’s been so quiet on here, eek.

I’ve been really enjoying my new job. Not only is it just a wonderful work environment, but it’s also allowed me to learn so much about wholesale and product-based branding. I feel very right-time/right-place, right now.

Here’s a few snaps of what’s been going on here:

Roos and I finally took the plunge and bought a fancy epson printer! I love it! I can’t wait to stock-up on beautiful printing paper. // I got my flower crown pug and teacups screen printed by the amazing ALL GOLD // My job is the best!! Thank you ZELMA ROSE for packaging my cross-stitch heart necklace SO beautifully (and thank you Kehau for the dreamy-lit photo!) // I played with a lot of crystal/geode pattern ideas. I’m sure we’ll see more of these… // I’m embroidering beautiful sounding words onto watercolor paper. Super excited about this, but it’s pretty slow. This is a snippet of the word “Susurrus” // A tiny fair I did at the end of March. Looking at my fellow crafty girls, GREEN HORSE CRAFT and FIBER FLORIST, I need to step up my table decoration! // Happy Mother’s Day Mom!

Valentine Mantle

Time for another holiday mantle! This one was done a bit under the wire, but Valentine’s in my favorite holiday so it’ll definitely stay up at least through March.IMG_0060

I had gold up everywhere from New Years Eve, and figured I could keep a little of the gold and add whatever spare pink toned paintings I had lying around. The big one in the center is my roommates. She left it when she moved out and I just think it’s too pretty to not display. The rest are mine, various valentine cards, and just some pretty little things.
