Holiday Windows 2014

I made FOUR holiday window installations in the span of 3 weeks! I KNOW! I’m insane.

But I love it.

Here’s some snippets of what I was working on. Materials range from felt, paper, paint-marker, and cardboard. Styles range from installations, hand-drawings, draping, and typography. Full photos soon, but for now some teasers.

Felt Cactus

I’ve cranked out a good bundle of baby felt cacti. I’ll be bringing some to the CCA Holiday Fair this Saturday, November 22nd and I’m selling some on my etsy. PS- I gave them names:

// Gossamer //

// Pink Baby //

// Sunflower //

// Little Buds //

// Happy Monster //

I’m also planning on bringing some flower crowns (surprised right?) , some art prints, pug totes, more cat bobbi pins and brooches, and hopefully some ornaments! Trying to pull off 4 holiday windows and a craft fair this month, eek (!)

More PS- Pictured in above pictures is my gold washi tape wall! I think it’s the happiest!

Halloween Windows

So that time I did two Halloween windows and never talked about them. Here we go!

These ghosts!!! I know, crazy spooky scary. This was my Halloween window for the Rare Device//Noe Valley store. It had to be done rather quickly, so I stitched up these ghosties.  I kept the gold diamonds that were up with the Cactus window because, why not, they’re cool. I like this last photo, it looks like they’re having a party and they”re singing.

IMG_20141008_103750IMG_1689IMG_20141005_10022120141029_112429I hung up my original creepy girl drawings at the Divisadero store. It was probably the simplest installation I’ve done, but it still took me forever. (People who install quickly, so impressed with you.) I also printed up some postcard sets and 8 x 10 prints.

Cactus Window

I created the window installation for the new Rare Device store in Noe Valley! I had the idea of filling it with decorative cactus pinatas. Here’s a peak at the window, but please check out the full post here!

I was beyond thrilled when photographer, Sarah Deragon, took some up-close photos of my window cacti. I wanted to share some of my favorites (so hard to choose!) to show some more detailed shots of what’s hanging in the Rare Device//Noe Valley window!

December in Instagram

I feel like I had all the time in the world in November and December has just been the total opposite. I only planned on two creative/crafty deadlines this month but somehow all these opportunities came about and I just couldn’t put my needle and thread down. I can’t complain though, because I would so much rather be busy with fun, creative work than any other kind. I just wish I had gotten to spend more time planning for christmas! I spent all last night sweeping up scattered bits of thread and fabric scraps and finally strung up some pretty lights in our room. Lights really do make a difference!

Anyway, here’s some photos of everything I’ve been working on this month.

Fox Ornaments

Happy December!

I stitched up these little foxes as a last minute item to sell. I figured they’d fit into the “holiday” part of the fair better than my crowns and I’m so happy with how they turned out! I spent one super late night sewing almost all of these. It gave me a chance to try out my sewing machine and after three mishaps, finally just hand stitching them. I’m useless without my sewing-savy roommates! Luckily I had the entire first season of Buffy to watch during the hours and hours of stitching. (I totally caught the first episode in the third picture. The communion wafers in her weapon-trunk kills me!) I think they make pretty adorable, squishy ornaments!

***Update- I just revamped the style of these foxes. A bit more embroidery and texture. I love them! Sharing soon!

Holiday Window

I was so happy when Vanessa from Story asked me to do another window display! Let me just say, I love working with her and I LOVE her shop! It’s so charming and sweet (I love the jewelry!!) . I’m incredibly lucky that we have an eye for the same aesthetics, and that she gives me lots of freedom in executing my ideas. Plus, she’s like the sweetest ever!

I came to her with a few ideas that would encompass the holiday spirit. Most of them were pattern or woodland themed (hey, I am who I am!) and luckily she was into them too. I saved my favorite idea for last, hanging big “peppermint sticks” from the ceiling, and that was it! It’s amazing getting paid to work on projects you really, really want to work on.

Here’s some shots from the window so far.

I gathered fallen branches from the park and used white paint and red suede to create giant peppermint sticks. Story has a really lovely handmade feel, so I think my materials compliment the store well. I can’t wait to see it at night with christmas lights! I think that will really make it magical.

Holiday Craft Fair

Oh man, this week has been crazy busy! But also productive, and that’s always the best. This past Saturday I participated in the CCA Holiday Craft Fair with my good friend and crafty soul mate, Mary.

I sold my flower crowns and some hand-stitched fox ornaments. Mary sold her beautiful crochet work and some cute Star Wars ornaments. We shared a table and it was super colorful and adorable! I’m really happy with how it went! This was my first time selling at CCA (did I mention I’m an alumni?) and I had a great time. I met some really lovely people, fellow crafters especially! Here are some pictures from the fair!

I was nervous that my flower crowns might be too summery for this fair, but they sold pretty well! Though I did intentionally only bring my red, black, and gold ones. Can’t get too flower child!

I had stayed up really late the night before and had some pre-fair antsyness going on, so Roos was sweet enough to buy me a mimosa while I did some last minute stitching! The sweetest! Best way to start a craft fair day!

Likely Lexi on Etsy

I’m happy to announce my etsy shop is finally ready for viewing! I know I’ve been mentioning it a lot here lately, but I’m for real this time. After weeks of designing, creating, photographing, making business cards, doing test deliveries, and then finally putting it all on etsy, my handmade flower crowns are finally available online!

I wanted to create pretty flower crowns that could be more of an everyday-wear accessory. I for one love real flower crowns. And this quote:

“I’d rather wear flowers in my hair,

than diamonds around my neck.”

Yep, I’m that kinda girl. I can’t be the only one, right? But I realize real flower – flower crowns are impractical, and the fun silk ones are pretty much reserved for music festivals (but if you’re that rare bird who can rock one any day, I’m envious!), so I wanted to make something a bit more practical (but still adorable and lovely!)

And they’re actually not all floral. Some are cats. I’m not even a cat person, and I really like this one! I’m so excited to announce my shop and I can’t wait to share more ideas, products, and maybe even a few DIY’s on this blog!

Please visit my etsy to get the whole picture!
